LibDem MP Announces Retirement

LibDem Voice (God, their second name-check today) is reporting that LibDem MP Paul Keetch is to stand down at the next election. He has a majority of 982 over the Conservatives. Virginia Taylor has fought the seat twice before and the Conservatives are currently selecting their candidate for next time. This news will certainly make the selection a tad more interesting.

Yes, Yes, Yes! I can't believe Virginia Taylor didn't succeed in ousting this waste of space. It is a shame that he is jumping before he is pushed. Not seeing him crying into his roset on election night is a sight I shall never see. I only hope that the removal of this unpopular local MP does not help the Lib Dems keep the seat.

who/what has he been caught shagging or stealing?

Yes, especially since (as I understand it) Virginia isn't in the frame this time. What price Howard Flight?

Keetch is clearly following in the footsteps of Estelle Morris and John Grogan. I believe it's known as "stepping down because you know you'd lose if you ran again"...

Iain, This isn't a very interesting post.

Can't you do one about RKS on "Question Time" that well known stage-managed nonsense on the Beeb?

There must be something "on" Keetch. Well done the Tory Diggers or whoever it was who found it out.

He's all of a year older than our host....

God the Conservatives are tawdry. Keetch has obviously not been that unpopular if he's beaten the Tories repeatedly - or are they just totally hated? Maybe he just wants to do something else?

So what goss have we got on Tim Boswell and Michael Spicer? Decrepit or Pervs? Or both?

According to Victoria, they want a male candidate.

Hereford is an unusual constituency in that it is an army town, so defence issues (including Iraq and Afghanistan) have a disproportionate influence. Keetch was, if I recall, the LD defence spokesman

He actually announced it himself last night at his local party meeting .... but I would like to know - is there any juicy gossip?
jeremycj - it is of interest to us country bumpkins.

Being an "army" town has nothing to do with it, especially since the base at ..........(if you want to know where wait til another "Bravo Two Zero" comes out) isn't supposed to exist.

Keetch has been on the wrong side of a number of very important local issues. The fact that the Tories don't have a candidate to make hay is a real shame.

In any case, Hereford must be won if we are to return to power, and would mean that Herefordshire and Worcester are both blue.
